About Wildlife

This is their world, we’re just living in it.

Tips & Tricks

Eagle County is home to amazing wildlife, from bighorn sheep to marmots and minnows. They were here first, and they deserve the R-E-S-P-E-C-T Aretha sings about. Show your backcountry badassery by obeying trail closures, which protect wildlife during critical mating and migrating seasons. Keep your distance— at least 50 yards or four bus lengths from wildlife. Or use the “rule of thumb:” hold your arm in front of you and give the animal a thumbs up. If you can’t cover the animal in your line of sight, you’re too close. You can also sign up for a guided hike or tour led by a local expert, who can spot wildlife you’d otherwise miss.
